Funding available for hard-working volunteers across West Yorkshire
Groups across West Yorkshire that are working hard to make their neighbourhoods safer are being urged to apply for a new round of funding from the Mayor Tracy Brabin.
Organisations across the region are being urged to apply for the latest grant with applications encouraged from those in the grassroots voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector.
West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin said:
"We are delivering a safer, fairer West Yorkshire and we're doing that in partnership with brilliant grassroots organisations which work tirelessly to make our region a better place to live.
“That's exactly what the Safer Communities Fund is all about – championing communities, helping those in need and making lives better.
“I would urge any groups eligible to apply so we can support them to deliver their work, creating a safe, just and inclusive West Yorkshire.”
Since its inception in 2021, the Mayor’s Safer Communities Fund has handed out more than £4million to 415 local projects.
The funding comes from cash and assets seized from criminals by police and prosecutors under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
It is made available largely thanks to the efforts of the West Yorkshire Police’s Economic Crime Unit.
West Yorkshire Police Chief Constable John Robins QPM DL, said:
“Our Economic Crime Unit relentlessly pursues those involved in serious and organised crime to bring them to justice for their illegal activities, seizing their assets through court orders wherever possible.
“The hard work they do to recover these assets cannot be understated and that’s why it gives me great pleasure for this money to be made available to groups and projects who help to make the communities of West Yorkshire safer places.”
The projects chosen will help deliver on the priorities and themes of the Mayor’s new Police and Crime Plan.
These include reducing vulnerability, the safety of women and girls and supporting children and young people.
The fund will also be open to projects which will deliver the ‘build’ element of Clear, Hold, Build (CHB) in four Home Office pilot areas across West Yorkshire.
CHB is a framework designed to improve the local response to tackling serious and organised crime. Applications under Clear, Hold, Build are restricted to projects delivering in Bradford (BD3), Calderdale (Park Ward), Kirklees (Ashbrow) and Leeds (Harehills).
This grant round closes at midday on Friday 4 July 2025. You can find out more information and how to apply on our website: Mayor's Safer Communities Fund
