Ahead of Ofgem’s price cap review this Friday (26 Aug), West Yorkshire Mayor, Tracy Brabin, has released the following statement.
The Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin said:
"While Westminster’s zombie government is in disarray caught up in a battle for the keys to Downing Street, people here in West Yorkshire are struggling.
“Friday’s price cap hike will mean a third of people in West Yorkshire will have nothing left of their monthly income after paying essential housing, travel and food costs. That is appalling for the world’s fifth biggest economy and a total betrayal by the government of their duties to protect the most vulnerable in society.
“We are doing what we can as local leaders, including slashing bus fares and supporting food banks. But Boris Johnson and Nadim Zahawi need to get back to their desks and take immediate action to provide households with additional support for their energy bills."
