Parents and guardians are being urged to take action and protect their children by attending free car seat safety check events happening in the coming months across West Yorkshire.
The events have been organised by the West Yorkshire Vision Zero Partnership and will be run by Good Egg Safety CIC.
When the project was run last year, experts found that out of the 763 seats inspected across 25 events, only 280 were deemed safe.
More than 60 per cent of child car seats were found to be incorrectly fitted or had other major faults such as not being compatible with the car.
Having your child seat checked takes minutes and presents a unique opportunity for parents and carers to meet with experts and make sure their children are safe when travelling.
Trained staff will assess the installation and overall safety of the seats as well as offer guidance and adjustments where needed, in a supportive and family-friendly environment.
No appointment is necessary. Anyone wanting to benefit just needs to attend one of the events which are taking place across the county, details of which can be found on the car seat safety check webpage or by contacting your local council.
Alison Lowe OBE, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, and Chair of the West Yorkshire Vision Zero Board, said: “West Yorkshire Vision Zero is all about reducing road deaths and serious injuries to zero by 2040.
“We all have a role to play in that and ensuring that children are safe while travelling is a must for any parent, carer or grandparent, so please take advantage of these free events.
“Being a nana myself, I made sure to make use of the service.”
Good Egg Safety CIC, is an internationally awarded non-profit organisation that focuses on family, and especially child safety.
Janis James MBE, CEO of Good Egg Safety, added: “It is a great privilege to work with the brilliant team at West Yorkshire Vision Zero Partnership again to bring this vital service to the communities they represent.
"Correctly fitted child car seats play a vital role in protecting children in a crash — yet many parents and carers are simply unaware that small fitting errors can compromise safety. Our mission is to provide families with the knowledge, confidence, and support they need to ensure their children are as safe as possible on every journey.
"Don’t take chances with your child’s safety. Get their seat checked – it only takes minutes."
