Remembering victims of crashes
In 1999, an oak tree was planted in Park Square gardens and a memorial plaque was unveiled to commemorate all the people of Leeds who have lost their lives or have been seriously affected by crashes on the city’s roads.
The tree is not intended as a place to lay flowers or other tributes, but rather it is a quiet space for those affected by bereavement or injury, and for the people of Leeds to spend time remembering and reflecting.
The memorial plaque was updated in 2024 to mark the 25th anniversary of the planting of the tree.
Maintenance and promotion of the memorial tree is part of the Leeds Vision Zero 2040 Strategy, and our ongoing commitment to providing support to all those affected by road crashes.
The tree is located at Park Square, Leeds LS1 2NP.

Oakleaf Service of Remembrance
The bereaved family, friends and loved ones of victims are welcome to attend the annual memorial event organized by the charity SCARD. The Oakleaf Service of Remembrance is held in Leeds Minster every year in November, during Brake Road Safety week. For more information contact info@scard.org.uk.
