The West Yorkshire Youth Commission is a peer-led project for young people.
About the Youth Commission
The Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) has partnered with Leaders Unlocked to develop a West Yorkshire Youth Commission, who are helping to shape local approaches specifically in response to violent crime and exploitation.
It enables young people to get involved and have their say about urgent issues that affect their lives and help build safer communities.
The group has set out its ‘Priority Aims’ which include:
- Rehabilitation and Prevention
- Community Relationships and Life
- Attitudes and Violence Towards Women
- Gangs, Drugs and Knife Crime
The 2025 cohort of the West Yorkshire Youth Commission is now open to applications.
Young people aged 14-25 can join this diverse group from different backgrounds and life experiences to take part.
Develop new knowledge, skills and experiences that focuses on listening to the views of other young people in West Yorkshire.
West Yorkshire Youth Commission Report

Through the 2024/25 Big Conversation report, the Youth Commission engaged in peer research with 1702 young people over 81 consultation events and online surveys, including peer-led workshops, engagement stands and one-to-one conversations across West Yorkshire.
